Retirees who receive either Social Security retirement or Railroad Retirement benefits will also receive payments automatically.
When and how will members receive their stimulus check?
The vast majority of people do not need to take any action. The IRS will calculate and automatically send the economic impact payment to those eligible.
For people who have already filed their 2019 tax returns, the IRS will use this information to calculate the payment amount. For those who have not yet filed their return for 2019, the IRS will use information from their 2018 tax filing to calculate the payment. The economic impact payment will be deposited directly into the same banking account reflected on the return filed.
- For those who have direct deposit on file with the IRS from their 2018/2019 tax return, the payment will reportedly be delivered as early as Wednesday, April 15th.
- Individuals and those married filing jointly who previously selected direct deposit for their taxes will receive their direct deposit into the same account as their previous tax filing.
- If a direct deposit is not on record with the IRS, a check will be mailed to the address listed on a person’s tax filing over the next few months.
- The US Treasury Department has developed a web-based portal for individuals and those married filing jointly to provide their banking information to the IRS online, so that they can receive payments immediately as opposed to checks in the mail. Please check irs.gov for more information.
What if the stimulus check is deposited into a closed account?
If funds go to a closed account, the payment will be rejected, and the Federal Government will mail the member a check.
What should members look for if they're receiving a paper check?
All U.S. Treasury checks are printed on watermarked paper. When held up to the light, the watermark reads “U.S. Treasury” from both the front and the back. Any check should be suspected as counterfeit if the check has no watermark, or the
watermark is visible without holding the check up to light. See image for reference:
What will be required to deposit a paper stimulus check?
As long as all check payees (the name/s listed next to “Pay to the order of:” line on the above check image) are on the account used to process your check, ECU will accept the paper check through Mobile Deposit, ATM, or in person. Making deposits via Mobile Deposit or ATM is the easiest, quickest, and safest way to make your paper check deposit. If making a deposit via Mobile Deposit, make sure to include "For Mobile Deposit" when endorsing the check on the signature line.
